『Intel Extreme Masters Season VIII World Championship』は、『League of Legends』と『StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm』をメインタイトルとし、各国で予選が開催されています。
予選を勝ち抜いたチーム・プレーヤーが3月にポーランドで実施されるWorld Championshipにて、世界ナンバーワンの座を賭けて競い合います。
Counter-Strikeシリーズ史上最高賞金額で開催
そんなWorld Championshipの会場にて、賞金総額$250,000のCounter-Strike:Global Offensiveトーナメント開催が発表されました。

$250,000は、メインタイトルである『League of Legends』と『StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm』と同額であると共に、今月初旬に開催されたCounter-Strikeシリーズ史上最高賞金額を誇る『2013 DreamHack SteelSeries CS:GO Championship』と同額となります。
DreamHack Winter 2013 ベスト8チームが招待チームとして出場
大会には、『2013 DreamHack SteelSeries CS:GO Championship』でベスト8に入賞した8チームが招待され出場となります。

- Counter-Strike1.6の『Intel Extreme Masters Season VII』競技タイトル不採用が決定
- 『Intel Extreme Masters Season VII』に Counter-Strike1.6 が採用されなかった理由を Carmac 氏がインタビューで明らかに、CS:GO も採用予定なし
今回も正式種目ではありませんが、盛り上がり次第によっては Season 9で正式採用される可能性が高くなるのではないでしょうか。
